Catechism Definitions

Here is a short list of words from the Catechism that may have you confused.  If you have other words that you don’t quiet understand please email us and we will try and define it with you.

Catechism: noun: catechism; plural noun: catechisms:  a summary of the principles of Christian religion in the form of questions and answers, used for the instruction of Christians. Also: a series of fixed questions, answers, or precepts used for instruction in other situations.

Heidelberg Catechism: The Heidelberg Catechism (1563), is a Protestant confessional document taking the form of a series of questions and answers, for use in teaching Reformed Christian doctrine. It was written in 1563 in Heidelberg, present-day Germany.

Pelagianism: is the belief that original sin did not taint human nature and that mortal will is still capable of choosing good or evil without special divine aid.  Hear some discussion.

Westminster Shorter Catechism: The Westminster Shorter Catechism is a catechism written in 1646 and 1647 by the Westminster Assembly, a synod of English and Scottish theologians and laymen intended to bring the Church of England into greater conformity with the Church of Scotland.
